The Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles, (才囚学園) is the main setting of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony and the location of the Killing School Semester.

History

There are multiple versions explaining the true nature of the Ultimate Academy, and most of them come from the allegedly fabricated memories implanted by the Flashback Light onto the sixteen participants of the Killing School Semester.

Flashback Light: Ultimate Initiative

According to the Monokuma Kubs, the sixteen participants of the Killing School Semester were scouted by the government through a program called the Ultimate Initiative, which existed to cultivate national talents. They were recognized for being prodigious in a particular talent and are granted the prestigious Ultimate title. Consequently, they received special handouts for being Ultimates, including free school tuition, voting privileges, eligibility to run for elected office, and an earnings grant. It was said that many students would do anything for the honor of being chosen as an Ultimate. Upon being exposed to the first Flashback Light, Kaede Akamatsu, the Ultimate Pianist, confirmed the Monokubs' explanation as being factual.[1]

The Ultimates in the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles Series attended different high schools and were said to be difficult to find, unlike students at Hope's Peak Academy who honed their Ultimate talents under that institution.[2][3] As such, the Ultimate Academy became a mystery to the Killing School Semester participants, who were collectively unaware of its existence prior to their kidnapping.

Flashback Light: Hope's Peak Academy

Danganronpa V3 CG - The Gofer Project (7)

Upon being exposed to the Flashback Light a day before the sixth body discovery, the remaining survivors were made to remember that the sixteen participants actually attended the rebuilt Hope's Peak Academy instead of different high schools. They were all in separate classes, and as the only remaining students surviving the global virus pandemic caused by the falling meteorites, they were selected for the Gofer Project. Consequently, they were sent to space in a gigantic spaceship colony that is the Ultimate Academy.

Danganronpa V3 CG - The Gofer Project (3)

While pretending as the mastermind, Kokichi Oma, the Ultimate Supreme Leader, claimed that thanks to the school's barrier, the academy complex had plenty of oxygen supplies. He also claimed that the sky on the other side of the barrier was manmade meant to help the participants forget that they were on a spaceship. The true mastermind, Tsumugi Shirogane, corroborated his story by generating this specific Flashback Light. As such, she successfully manipulated the remaining survivors into believing they were Hope's Peak Academy students and Kokichi was the Ultimate Despair who hijacked the Gofer Project and masterminded the killing game.

The Mastermind's Assertion

At the final class trial, Tsumugi claimed that the memories implanted by the Flashback Light were merely fabrication and the academy was actually a film set of the 53rd season of Danganronpa, a television show by Team Danganronpa. Due to several holes in Tsumugi's story that make her an unreliable narrator, however, whether or not she was telling the truth is deliberately left up to the player's interpretation.

If Tsumugi's claims were true, it is unclear where the film set is situated within the world. Similarly, it is never confirmed whether Team Danganronpa repurposed the academy from any of the past killing games or if the company created it brand new. Monokuma and The Monokubs, however, asserted that the entire facility was built to specifically cater to the sixteen participants, with the research labs as the primary example.[4] For instance, the art supplies in the Ultimate Artist Research Lab belonging to Angie Yonaga happened to suit her tastes well. Meanwhile, swords or any other weapons of similar length were missing from the Maki Harukawa's Ultimate Assassin Research Lab since she stopped using a sword after a botched mission using a katana.

Regardless, the school was undeniably run by the school's self-proclaimed Headmaster Monokuma and his five "children", the Monokubs along with the Exisals. They install a campus-wide siren that would blare should anyone violate a school regulation.[5]

Destruction

Main article: Ultimate Annihilation
Danganronpa V3 CG - K1-B0 ready to destroy the Academy (3)

The Ultimate Academy was annihilated by K1-B0, the Ultimate Robot and audience surrogate, after he accidentally lost his antenna that connected him to the outside world during the execution of Kaito Momota, the Ultimate Astronaut. However, he agreed to help his classmates safely explore areas they had yet to investigate until dawn. Shuichi Saihara, the Ultimate Detective, then convinced him to participate in the final class trial, which ended with the audience abandoning Danganronpa and allowing K1-B0 to finish what he had started.

Danganronpa V3 CG - The survivors of the execution (11)
Once he ensured the academy was in utter ruin, K1-B0 pressed a self-destruct button and launched himself directly into the End Wall, shattering the glass cage in a gigantic explosion and revealing that the outer part of the dome was encased with Team Danganronpa logos. The remaining survivors, Shuichi, Maki, and Himiko Yumeno, the Ultimate Magician, were spared from the execution and decided to see for themselves whether they have changed the outside world.

List of Rules

The Ultimate Academy enforces strict rules among its student body. Students who violate these rules may be exterminated with extreme prejudice by the Exisals—highly mobile, bipedal weapon platforms. There are a total of five Exisals at the Ultimate Academy. Each one is a different color and piloted by a Monokub.

  • Rule #1: Students must live at the Ultimate Academy for the remainder of their foreseeable future.
  • Rule #2: Once a murder takes place, all surviving students must participate in a class trial.
  • Rule #3: If the blackened is exposed during the class trial, they alone will be executed.
  • Rule #4: If the blackened is not exposed, all remaining students will be executed.
  • Rule #5: If the blackened survives the class trial, they will graduate and re-enter the outside world.
  • Rule #6: The killing game and class trials will continue until only two surviving students remain.
  • Rule #7: "Nighttime" is from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. The dining hall and gymnasium are off-limits at night.
  • Rule #8: Violence toward Monokuma, the headmaster of the Ultimate Academy, is strictly prohibited.
  • Rule #9: Monokuma will never directly commit a murder.
  • Rule #10: Your Monopads are very important items. Please do not damage them.
  • Rule #11: The "Body Discovery Announcement" will play when three or more students discover a body.
  • Rule #12: With minimal restrictions, you are free to explore the campus at your discretion.
  • Rule #13: Students who violate these rules will be immediately exterminated by the Exisals.
  • Rule #14: Further, there may be new additions to the school rules according to the convenience of the headmaster.

The following rules were added later:

  • Rule #14: Swimming is prohibited in the pool during nighttime. Touching the water is also against the school rules.
  • Rule #15: If two different murders by different murderers occur at the same time, only the one whose victim was found first will be the blackened.

Overview

“ Even though it's a hallway, there sure are a lot of plants growing around here... And the air here is heavy... Oppressively heavy, as if forcing you to recall your fears, smothering you in anxiety... But this is just a school...right? What kind of school makes you feel like this?

— Kaede Akamatsu[6]
”

Danganronpa V3 Location - 2F Hallway

The Ultimate Academy was ostensibly a school, including classrooms, a dormitory, and so on. The building itself had the sense of being abandoned for a long time and thus has been reclaimed by nature, with the ground floor particularly affected. Tall grass and wild flowers grew from the ground in most of the ground floor hallways, and throughout the building, many of the rooms had vines and ivy growing from the ceiling.

Many rooms and hallways throughout the school also had loose wiring, broken objects, poor lighting, and windows sealed by barbed wire. In contrast, the areas which appear to have been fully purpose-built for the Killing School Semester were strikingly different to the rest of the building with very modern furniture and fixtures, and with little or no dilapidation whatsoever.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard School Building Renovation (2)

After each class trial, Monokuma and the Monokubs reward the students with objects they can use to unlock new areas. The Monokubs also mobilize their Exisals to progress the school renovation. By Chapter 5, the greenery is cleared out and almost all infrastructures and facilities are accessible to the remaining survivors. Shuichi describes the school as gradually becoming more "mechanical."

DR V3 Chapter 6 - Truth Bullet (18)
Despite the lush greenery and other natural resources, no single bugs apart from those confined in Gonta Gokuhara's Ultimate Entomologist Research Lab existed anywhere in the academy. Instead of bugs, Nanokumas, a swarm of extremely tiny Monokuma-like robots with a resemblance to insects and cameramen covered every square inch of the campus. They recorded the footage of the killing game and transmitted it wirelessly to the killing game's overseer, Motherkuma, who parsed the footage before sending it off to Monokuma, effectively replacing the function of surveillance cameras.

End Wall

“ Upon opening the doors, we were immediately greeted by... Blue skies. Bright sunlight. Gentle wind. And— A-A cage...? A wall? Both words were accurate. What stood before us was both cage and wall. Either way, the enormous wall struck a terrifying chord. The mere sight of its imposing presence was enough to send waves of panic through me. No matter where we looked—ahead, behind, above, or all around... The cage surrounded the entire school.

— Kaede Akamatsu[6]
”
Danganronpa V3 CG - Kaede Akamatsu and Shuichi Saihara exploring the outside of the school

The campus comprises of a five story school building and various areas on its courtyard sealed inside a giant glass dome the Monokubs dub as the End Wall, where skyscrapers from the nearby city could be seen in the distance. It was erected to separate the fictional world of Danganronpa from the real outside world, and thus it could not be climbed or demolished and none could leave as it lacked entrances or exits.

Danganronpa V3 CG - The survivors of the execution (3)

However, this claim remained debatable as no explanation of how the students were brought into the academy was ever given. Furthermore, Himiko and Maki speculated that there was a possibility that the outside world was just as fictional as the killing game and that Danganronpa still continued in that world.

Similar to Jabberwock Island depicted in the Neo World Program, the wall simulates day progression. Gonta who possesses 20/0.625 vision somewhat notices its artificial nature, noting that the stars he used to view at night are absent at the Ultimate Academy.[7]

Research Labs

“ Making a building like this must've taken a lot of money and work... And all the research labs are amazing... How much money was put into this school? And it was all built just for us...

— Tsumugi Shirogane[8]
”
Research Center Kaede Akamatsu

A notable aspect which sets the Ultimate Academy apart from Hope's Peak Academy is the inclusion of research labs (研究室), facilities tailored to each captive students' unique Ultimate Talent. They could be found in different locations throughout the whole school, with many becoming accessible after each class trials. The rooms were each uniquely furnished, often very lavishly, and contain equipment with which the Ultimate student could practice their skill. Apart from Angie's, the research labs have no locks, becoming accessible to anyone at anytime. If the lab owner dies before their Ultimate research lab is opened, the lab will remain closed.

Monitors

Monokubs' broadcast

High-tech monitors are installed at every inch square of the campus, even at remote locations such as the underground passage. They are utilized by Monokuma and the Monokubs to broadcast announcements. Shuichi describes them as being gaudy and assume they are custom made due to being expensive-looking.[10] They lack any surveillance equipment to spy on the students as that task is already delegated to the Nanokumas. It is unknown from where Monokuma and the Monokubs broadcast their announcements.

Monokuma's broadcast Monokuma's broadcast

Monokuma's broadcast

Shortly before the death of Rantaro Amami, the Ultimate Survivor, a promotional video BGM blares out from every monitor to signal the First Blood Perk time limit is almost up. Tsumugi claims that Monokuma plays the obnoxious music at such a high volume to pressure the students to kill as well. Regardless of Monokuma's true intentions, its loud sound drowns out the shot put Kaede rolls through the air vent to the library. This ensures that any arguments saying that Rantaro would notice the sound as it travels to be refuted, making the assumption that only Kaede can kill Rantaro logical at the time.

Many monitors become collateral damage during K1-B0's fight with the Exisals in Chapter 6.

Classrooms

Three classrooms exist within the campus: Classroom A on the first floor and Classroom B and C on the second floor. Apart from different wall colors, they largely share the same features, which include unusually high-tech LCD screen blackboards, multiple desks equipped with a monitor on each, a bulletin board, a bookshelf, and two empty lockers.

Classroom A Classroom A

Classroom A

Classroom A is situated nearby the stairs to the basement, which Kaede and Shuichi occupy as a lookout while attempting to expose the mastermind. Moreso, Kaede intends to role a shot put through its air vent, which leads to the library, and bludgeon the oblivious mastermind to death. Shuichi assumes the vent was installed to control the humidity in the library. It is a tight squeeze for one person of a medium build to crawl in.

After their kidnapping, Kaede and Shuichi first wake up and meet after they exit the lockers in Classroom B.

Flashback Light Setup in Classroom C Flashback Light Setup in Classroom C

Flashback Light Setup in Classroom C

Classroom C first opens in Chapter 1. Tsumugi utilizes this classroom, more specifically a desk with a secret hologram display of a keyboard, to generate a new Flashback Light. By touching the keyboard, Tsumugi activates the Flashback Light Setup displayed on the blackboard. Upon confirming which fabricated memories she wishes to implant on the students, the Flashback Light pops up inside the locker.

To obfuscate the room's purpose and avoid being caught, the classroom immediately reverts back to normal when the door is opened. Similarly, a switch is required to activate the keyboard display, knowledge only known to Tsumugi.

The entrance hall is initially blocked with iron grates. It opens ever since Kaede and Shuichi finished investigating the basement for the first time, allowing the students to enter and exit the school building at will.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Entrance Hall (4)

The entrance hall collapses in Chapter 6, revealing an underground passageway leading to the Ultimate Supreme Leader Research Lab. Shuichi speculates that if it hadn't been destroyed by K1-B0, the staircase would have been unlocked by a mysterious item just like the other areas.

”

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Girls Bathroom
The girls bathroom is accessible when playing as Kaede in Chapter 1 and as Shuichi during the investigation portion of Chapter 6. The wall behind the utility closet conceals a passageway leading to the basement's hidden room where Motherkuma resides. Prior to its accidental discovery by Himiko, only Tsumugi is aware of the passageway's existence. Moreover, she frequently enters the hidden room from the girls bathroom, most notably before killing Rantaro. Tsumugi also shows her "Cospox" to Kaede in the girls bathroom.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Warehouse Entrance

Since the prologue, the academy's sizeable warehouse supplies the students with everyday needs and criminal goods alike. For instance, Korekiyo Shinguji, the Ultimate Anthropologist, retrieves a saw and matches from the warehouse to execute a seesaw murder trick during a sham seance. After killing Angie, he also obtains ropes to hang the wax effigies in her lab so as to create a locked room mystery. Similarly, Kokichi, with Kaito as his accomplice, acquires a video camera to record his own death and a tripod to adjust the camera's height.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Warehouse

In contrast, there are also several items utilized for either mundane or altruistic purposes. For instance, swimsuits worn by the girls during the Everywhere Parasol present bonus scene are taken from the warehouse. Miu Iruma, the Ultimate Inventor, modifies the available RC helicopter into a "drome," an aerial photograph device she employs to draft the library's floor plan during the first investigation. She is also responsible for modifying the disposable cameras intended by Kaede and Shuichi to secretly photograph the mastermind. Likewise, it is Miu who rummages a shelf with different chemicals prior to her introduction with Kaede and Shuichi.

Professional gymnasium equipment such as a high jump bar, mats, hurdles, and shot put balls stored in a wooden box are stored in the warehouse as well. Kaede and Tsumugi obtain one shot put each and incorporate it into their respective murder plots. Kaede specifically uses duct tape Shuichi retrieved to keep the flash function of a hidden camera she sets up on, while Shuichi himself set up a security sensor also taken from the warehouse.

Despite its seemingly endless variety of items, black gloves similar to what Kirumi Tojo, the Ultimate Maid, wears are missing from the warehouse, causing her to unwittingly leave incriminating evidence behind while transporting the body of the Ultimate Tennis Pro, Ryoma Hoshi. Kokichi assumes that this may have been an intentional decision made by the sadistic Monokuma.

Dining Hall

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Dining Hall

The students gather at the dining hall for their daily breakfast. It consists of the main dining area, the demo-exclusive kitchen, and the terrace area. Kaede and Shuichi can access the dining hall through the terrace door as a faster alternative than the entrance hall. It is off-limits during nighttime. While alive, Kirumi takes it upon herself to cook for her classmates.

Throughout the killing game, the dining hall bears witness to various events involving the students such as bonding activities, heated arguments, physical altercations, and chaos triggered by either the killing game hosts or exposures to the Flashback Light.

There is a seating area located nearby the dining hall and the school store, which Kaede and Shuichi seldom utilize.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Ultimate Magician Research Lab Entrance

The Ultimate Magician Research Lab (超高校級のマジシャンの研究教室), belonging to Himiko, is first found in Chapter 2, after the Ancient Passport concealing the hallway leading up to it is unlocked. The door to it is blue, with a magical insignia inscribed on it.

Research Center Himiko Yumeno

Inside the lab, multiple contraptions typically utilized during magic shows are stored. These include a guillotine, a saw, a body sawing box, a human-sized sword stabbing box, a huge cauldron on fire Himiko claims for storing her mana in, and a birdcage for the doves big enough for someone of Shuichi's stature or smaller to fit in. Although Himiko is disappointed that her lab confuses "real magic" with "magic tricks," she is nonetheless impressed by its thorough collection.

To execute her underwater magic trick during her magic show, Himiko employs a large water tank, a timer, the stairs, and the piranhas stored in a smaller tank taken from her lab. The tank has a secret segment near the top that opens up, an exit for Himiko after she dives into the water. It comes with a pulley that makes carrying the heavy tank to the gym easier for Kaito and K1-B0.

Geometric Pattern Door

The Geometric Pattern Door is the first floor entrance to the Ultimate Astronaut Research Lab located on the sixth floor. It is unlocked by the Last Real Key in Chapter 5, revealing a spiral staircase that leads all the way to the research lab.

Gymnasium

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Gymnasium

Similar to the Killing School Life, the gymnasium is often used by Monokuma, this time alongside his Monokubs, to summon the students. In fact, the students have been gathered in the gymnasium before the killing game officially commences, wherein the Monokubs expose them to the First Flashback Light.

The gym features a platform at the rear center, two basketball rings, a light control panel used to raise and lower the batten, and a window covered with red curtains connected to the courtyard's swimming pool area. Lockers for each students are also prepared outside of the gym's entrance.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Gymnasium Chapter 5
In Chapter 5, Kaito collects weapons from Maki's research lab and brings them to the gym, dubbing them as the Ultimate Anti-Monokuma weapons meant to defeat him. However, Kokichi, who devises his own plan to end the killing game, brings the Electrohammers to the gym on a trolley and offers his classmates to equip them instead. They are weapons invented by Miu that can disable any electronic machines on contact.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Himiko Yumeno and Angie Yonaga's Magic Show (English) (6)

In Chapter 2, Angie and Himiko hold a magic show in the gym to ease the tension caused by the motive videos. Himiko intends to perform the Extreme Water Magic, Underwater Escape Act, which requires her to escape the water tank within 60 seconds. If she fails, she will be devoured by the piranhas dropped from the suspended tank, a deadly challenge pitched in by Angie. However, during a back route of the second class trial, Himiko claims that her piranhas only eat dead flesh like Ryoma's.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 1F Gymnasium Himiko's Magic Show (1)

To accommodate the show, K1-B0 and Kaito carry equipment from Himiko's lab, such as the stairs and the large water tank. They are then placed within the stage Angie painted and built. The tank, unbeknownst to everyone but Himiko, has a panel on the side that could open, which she employs as her escape hatch. It is connected to the inside of the staircase facing away from the audience. To ensure she exits undetected, she requests Kirumi to sew the curtain to cover the stage and also the banner for decoration purposes. Once she exits the staircase, the soaked Himiko accidentally creates a puddle on the backstage before she dries herself with a towel and changes uniform.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Shuichi Saihara and Kaito Momota investigating the water tank (2)

The piranha tank is placed directly overhead, and according to the its manual, it syncs up with the timer so that the bottom would automatically open when timer reaches zero. Only the front side and the lid are made of glass while the other sides are made of wood. Himiko and Angie raise the piranha tank above by attaching it to the gym's sturdy lighting batten. Shuichi further assumes that they use a ladder next to the stage to further their prepwork. While setting up, Angie and Himiko temporarily seal the gym.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 2 - Closing Argument Act 1 (1)

Behind everyone's backs, Kirumi plots to murder Ryoma and frames Himiko during her magic show. Around 8:55 p.m, while preparing for the show in the gym, Kirumi, while alone, uses the ladder to reach the piranha tank and removes the glass lid to put inside the tank. She uses it as a partition to force the piranhas to one side of the tank and free the other side to hide Ryoma's corpse. As such, the piranhas get crowded together, creating the illusion they multiply overnight. It also causes the water to get cloudy and murky, further concealing Ryoma's body from the magic show audiences' view before it drops into the large water tank along with the piranhas.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 2 - Closing Argument Act 1 (2)

Afterward, Kirumi prepares to create a ropeway mechanism to transport Ryoma's body from his research lab to the gym. First, she climbs up to the gym's window using the ladder once more. Once there, she opens the window and ties one end of the rope to the window frame. The rope is then thrown out the window toward the pool.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 2 - Closing Argument Act 3 (3)

Past midnight, Kirumi drowns Ryoma at his research lab, connects the tennis net cable with the rope she ties at the gym, and slids toward the gym with Ryoma's body on a rubber inner tube. To avoid crashing through the window, Kirumi uses her own hand as a brake. The transport process inadvertently leaves behind a distinct mark on the gym's window frame.

Danganronpa V3 CG - The ropeway trick explained (2)

Kirumi has to go through this trouble since the gym is off-limits at nighttime. However, Monosuke confirms that standing on the windowsill is permitted, allowing Kirumi to safely dump Ryoma's body to the suspended piranha tank. Afterward, she detaches the rope from the window after using the ropeway. Then, she retrieves the rope from the side of Ryoma's lab, before tossing it to the gym from the pool window, explaining why it is discovered on the backstage during the second investigation. She also leaves the windows wide open as seen while Himiko is performing and subsequent Ryoma's body discovery.

The lab is completed with different CDs lined up on the shelves. They are mostly classical music and works of minor and major composers from various eras and countries. Among them is Claude Debussy's Clair de Lune, which Shuichi places in the lab's player and listens to following Kaede's execution. There is also a blackboard behind the piano, music notes scattered across the floor, and piano stools and music stands circling the grand piano.

The Ultimate Entomologist Research Lab (超高校級の昆虫博士の研究教室), which door is decorated with butterflies, belongs to Gonta. The room itself is full of greenery and has its walls lined with insect specimens. These samples thoroughly impressed Gonta that he believes it was made with "love and care." Books about insect are arranged on top of the table as well.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Gonta Gokuhara's Insect Meet and Greet (1)

The lab houses an extraordinary amount of bug cages inhabited by larva and eggs. They are hatched and released by Gonta during the Insect Meet and Greet with Shuichi, K1-B0, Korekiyo, Tenko, Himiko, and Tsumugi as unwilling participants. Feeling guilty, Gonta allows his classmates to leave as he forces Kokichi, who tricked him into kidnapping them, to enjoy a solo Insect Meet and Greet session.

Research Center Gonta Gokuhara

Following Gonta's execution, Shuichi discovers that some of the books are left open, leading him to assume that Gonta was in the middle of reading them. He also speculates that the lab is destroyed during K1-B0's rampage, though no other creatures than the Nanokumas were caught by the Bugvac.

Research Center Ryoma Hoshi

The Ultimate Tennis Pro Research Lab (超高校級のテニス選手の研究教室) belongs to Ryoma. The room has an indoor tennis court which features large machines swinging racquets, tennis ball baskets, umpire's chairs, a scorekeeper, and a 50 feet long tennis net according to Kaito's estimation.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 3F Ultimate Tennis Pro Research Lab Shower Room

Unique to Ryoma's lab, it has a shower room at the back that doubles as the Ultimate Prisoner Lab. Kaito and Shuichi assume that Monokuma remodels it to resemble a prison to "better" suit Ryoma's prisoner status. It contains three showers, three handcuffs, two prisoner uniforms, a large stone sink, and a window that overlooks the pool and is parallel to the back of the gym. It can only be explored during the investigation portion of Chapter 2.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Kirumi Tojo murdering Ryoma Hoshi (2)

Past midnight after learning about his motive video, the depressed Ryoma meets Kirumi, who intends to take his life in his lab. Sensing her bloodthirst, he pretends to clean up the tennis balls lying around, signaling Kirumi to kill him.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 2 - Closing Argument Act 2 (2)

Kirumi then knocks him unconscious and handcuffs his wrist knowing that the pain from drowning would wake him up and prompt him to resist. He struggles as Kirumi shoves his head to the shower room's sink filled with water, leaving scrapes on the cuffs and sinks before he eventually drowns.

To transport Ryoma's body to the gym, Kirumi removes the cable from the tennis net and hangs it from the window facing the pool, which she then connects to the rope from the gym window at the pool. She returns to Ryoma's lab with the rubber inner tube and transports his body using a ropeway mechanism. Due to the strain, Kirumi unwittingly leaves behind a distinct marks on the frame mirroring to that of the gym's window.

After his flesh is eaten by Himiko's piranhas, he leaves behind the handcuffs Kirumi puts on him.

The Ultimate Assassin Research Lab (超高校級の暗殺者の研究教室), initially thought to be the Ultimate Child Caregiver Lab, has its door decorated in red. During Chapter 2, the lab owner, Maki, refuses to let anyone in to keep her true talent a secret. Her secret is exposed by Kokichi after the second class trial concludes, leaving her no choice but to let her classmates inspect her lab.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 3F Ultimate Assassin Research Lab

The lab is a comprehensive arsenal with various weapons Maki can wield stored on the shelf. These include naginatas, hammers, chainsaws, knives, and so on. There are also sickles with six-inch blades, one of which Korekiyo uses to kill Tenko. Instead of real firearms to prevent the students' revolt, a sheer number of airsoft guns are lined up on the wall. Shuichi assumes that should Kirumi discover these firearms, she would have used them to take her classmates out to escape and resume her prime minister duty.[19]

Argument Armament - Maki Harukawa (1)

The lab also provides a shooting range and a red cloak that loosely resembles to that of Maki's Argument Armament sprites, though they are in different colors.

Danganronpa V3 Maki Harukawa Halfbody Sprite (28)

Among the plethora of weapons, only katanas or weapons of similar length are missing from Maki's lab. This is likely intentional knowing Maki no longer uses these types of weapons after a botched mission involving a katana.

In Chapter 5, Kaito collects various weapons from Maki's lab and brings them to the gym for the remaining survivors to use to fight against Monokuma. However, this plan is abandoned after Kokichi offers them Electrohammers as alternatives.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Maki Harukawa teaching Kaito Momota how to assemble a crossbow

Three black cases containing a crossbow can also be found in Maki's lab. She teaches Kaito how to assemble one, giving him the idea to use it against Kokichi, who kidnaps him to the Exisals' hangar. One of the crossbows is then delivered by Himiko at Kaito's request, and another utilized by Maki in her attempt to kill Kokichi and free Kaito.

The fourth floor opens up in Chapter 3. It has a distinct Japanese horror interior inspired by a made-up story about a brutal murder which supposedly took place within this floor. The soundtrack "Spirit, Praise, and Beauty" plays whenever Shuichi sets foot on the fourth floor.

Multiple barriers that block access to other areas, such as the pane of glass and hanging scroll behind a shrine gate, can be removed by using the Golden Hammer in Chapter 3 and Octobrush in Chapter 4, respectively.

Empty Room - Right

Three empty rooms exist on the fourth floor. As the name suggests, they are dusty rooms devoid of any features apart from the dimly-lit candles. Should the candles go out, these rooms turn pitch black due to the lack of windows. Moreover, the floors are unstable since they are layered on top of crosspieces instead of being firmly nailed. However, Gonta assures that nobody can fall through them easily as the floorboards are thick enough to leave no gaps between them. There is a hole in the corner of each room as well.

While preparing the seance murder, Korekiyo uses the floorboard as a seesaw by cutting the crosspiece supporting it. He makes the same preparations for all three empty rooms to divert suspicion away from him and to whoever picks a room, which ends up being Himiko. Kokichi discovers this trick after accidentally falling through a cut floorboard in either the left or right room.

Danganronpa V3 Location - 4F Empty Room Middle Crime Scene (2)

While investigating the middle room's under floor, Maki and Shuichi discover that they are spacious enough for two people to move on all fours. Some of the woods have corroded and are broken off, allowing them to peer into the next room. They further discover that the hole is caused by natural rot, and they can easily access the neighboring empty rooms from it.

Each rooms are haunted by the ghosts of destroyed mascots. The left room is haunted by Monosuke, the central by the still active Monokuma, and the right by Monokid.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 3 - Closing Argument Act 1 (2)

While cutting crosspieces in the middle room late at night, Korekiyo is caught red-handed by Angie who intends to obtain a candle. Since he is hellbent on employing the seesaw trick and not wanting a future witness, he decides to strike the unsuspecting Angie in the head using the floorboard he loosens. Then, he wraps duct tape around her injury to stop the bleeding and carries her to her research lab before he kills her there.

Following Angie's body discovery, Korekiyo offers to hold The Caged Child Seance to channel her spirit. Of all places, the middle empty room is chosen by Himiko. This allows Shuichi and Maki to discover Angie's dried bloodstain beneath the floor, helping the students to determine that Korekiyo kills both Angie and later Tenko.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 3 - Closing Argument Act 4 (1)

The seance's participants include Korekiyo, Tenko, Himiko, Kokichi, and Shuichi. To ensure he can kill Tenko properly using the seesaw trick, he draws a magic circle encircling the cut crosspiece using purifying salt. He then instructs Tenko to rest upon the small stone Himiko brings in the middle.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 3 - Closing Argument Act 4 (2)

Next, several items taken from the Ultimate Anthropologist Research Lab are placed over the bowing Tenko. Kokichi and Shuichi place the iron cage, then Korekiyo drapes the white cloth over it whilst secretly placing the murder weapon, a sickle from Maki's lab. Finally, Korekiyo capitalizes the weight of the wooden dog statue on top of the cage to keep the sickle in place.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 3 - Closing Argument Act 5 (3)

After the preparations are complete, Korekiyo instructs Kokichi and Shuichi to blow out the candle and begin the seance in complete darkness. While the participants are singing The Caged Child song, Korekiyo guides along the lines of the magic circle to reach the floorboard that has its crosspiece cut off the night before. He then stomps on the floorboard, lifting it up like a seesaw and raising Tenko's body toward the sickle, killing her.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Himiko Yumeno discovering Tenko Chabashira's corpse

Once the deed is done, Korekiyo follows the salt back to his corner, finishes the ritual, has the others light the candles, and instructs them to remove the seance equipment. While the others are shocked by the body discovery, Korekiyo picks up the sickle and drops it under the floor through the hole in the corner of the room. Everyone then unwittingly works toward his favor by stomping over the magic circle, thus destroying the evidence. However, K1-B0 has already taken its picture before Shuichi replaces his participation.

During the investigation, K1-B0 brigthens up the room using his newly installed function.

After the third class trial, any evidence of the seance and Tenko's body are removed from the empty room.

Ultimate Anthropologist Research Lab

“ This is truly amazing... Not even university labs are so well-stocked. Having all this to myself gives me some complicated feelings, as I am a researcher.

— Korekiyo Shinguji[8]
”

Danganronpa V3 Location - 4F Ultimate Anthropologist Research Lab

The Ultimate Anthropologist Research Lab (超高校級の民俗学者の研究教室), belonging to Korekiyo, is rather large compared to the other labs. It has two entrances, around five floors total, and various historical items on display in exhibit cases, on the walls, or on tables. Paintings adorn the walls while weathered and old books and scrolls are packed into the bookshelf. The lab reminds Shuichi of a museum or library.

DR V3 Chapter 3 - Truth Bullet (11)

One of the most precious collections in the lab is the original copy of the Caged Dog Village Book. It contains the history of the fabled Caged Dog Village said to have been destroyed long ago. The village had a reputation for using dark arts and spells, prompting a feudal lord who feared their power to ravage it. Spells and dark arts rumored to be extremely potent were also inscribed by the author, a female sole survivor from the village.

Among the dark arts documented in the book is The Caged Child seance. In fact, this lab features tools and objects needed to perform the seance, such as the large wooden dog statue, folded white cloth, and iron cage. Korekiyo attempts the seance in one of the empty rooms, not out of anthropological curiosity, but to incorporate it into his murder plot. He faithfully follows the step-by-step and the plethora of requirements down to a T. However, he intentionally ruins the process by killing Tenko, the spirit medium, at the end, rendering it unknown whether the seance would work in less murderous circumstances.

DR V3 Chapter 3 - Truth Bullet (5)

Another exhibited precious relic is a golden katana, though Korekiyo reveals that it is merely coated with gold leaf. It is rusted but looks about a yard long and still sharp. After Kokichi carelessly unsheathes the katana, the gold plating immediately flakes off due to its old age, proving its authenticity. Korekiyo uses this katana to murder Angie and create a locked-room mystery in her research lab.

Following Korekiyo's execution, the seance tools used in the middle empty room are moved back to his lab with the exception of the Caged Dog Village book, which Kokichi retrieves and safekeeps in his room.

Ultimate Artist Research Lab

“ Shuichi: The same classroom has two different kinds of locks for the doors. That's mildly infuriating.
Angie: No, no. It's perfect that they're not the same. Symmetry is a western beauty ideal. They like symmetry and the golden ratio and such... But I think asymmetry and partition functions are more beautiful.[8]

”
Danganronpa V3 Location - 4F Ultimate Artist Research Lab

The Ultimate Artist Research Lab (超高校級の美術部の研究教室) belongs to Angie Yonaga. Its ceiling beams are exposed and its walls are almost entirely white, save for the large splatters of paint scattered here and there, and dimly lit. It has all of Angie's favorite art supplies including several crafting tables, easels, blank canvases, crafting and sculpting tools such as chisels and wooden hammers, multiple buckets of paint, and brushes all over the floor.

Back door Back door

Back door

Unique to Angie's lab, its front door has a cylinder lock while the back door has a sliding lock to accommodate Angie's preference of being alone while creating art. It originally comes with a key before Monodam engulfs it, which Angie pays no mind as she only needs to lock the door while she is working inside. Similarly, Angie is unbothered by the lack of completed pieces, stating that Atua requires no references to create art.

“ Angie used this to make effigies. But they didn't have traces of a soul. A soul desperate to live, struggling, fighting for life... That's something that can never be replicated.

”
Danganronpa V3 Location - 4F Ultimate Artist Research Lab Ritual Preparation

The lab features a lump of wax that Angie uses to create the lifelike effigies of Rantaro, Kaede, Ryoma, and Kirumi in preparation for the resurrection ritual. She also needs some fire for the ritual and decides to retrieve a candle from the empty room, unknowingly walking into Korekiyo preparing his murder seance. Not wanting a witness, he strikes the unsuspecting Angie in the head, knocking her out.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 3 - Closing Argument Act 2 (2)

Korekiyo wraps duct tape around Angie's injury to stop the bleeding and carries her to her research lab. He makes an oversight by not noticing the duct tape peeling off and slipping under Angie's body, which Shuichi and Maki discover while inspecting her body. Angie dies by being stabbed in the back of the neck with the katana Korekiyo obtains from his lab.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 3 - Closing Argument Act 2 (3)

Korekiyo then hangs Angie's four effigies upside-down using ropes to overwhelm the room with an occult atmosphere and to create a locked-room mystery. He sticks the katana into Kaede's effigy near the back door and spins the effigy around to twist up the rope. After enough turns, he lets go and heads for the back door. Once released, the effigy begins spinning, and the katana with it. The handle of the gold leaf katana then hits the sliding lock, locking the door. The students believe Korekiyo attempts this trick multiple times until he succeeds.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Angie Yonaga's corpse

Angie's body is discovered after Kokichi successfully lockpicks the front door. During the investigation, the ritual guidebook, the Necronomicon is found lying next to Angie's body.

Following the third class trial's conclusion, Angie's body and any trace of her murder such as the wax effigies vanish from her lab. The lighting becomes noticeably dimmer as well.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Basement Library (4)

The library is disorganized with books scattered on the floor and on top of the bookcases, causing Shuichi to wonder whether the library or the academy itself was occupied prior to the Killing School Semester. Kaede also notes that the room is filled with the scent of old musty books, while Shuichi finds that the books' bindings are still in excellent condition. They are mostly written in foreign languages that neither Kaede nor Shuichi recognizes. Expert-level textbooks and a perpetually rotating globe can be found here as well. The books are packed together tightly onto the bookcases that Kaede is unable to put her feet on when she attempts to climb the shelves and reach the air vent. The only way to reach books on higher shelves or the vent is by utilizing the provided moving ladder.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Basement Library (Opened Moving Bookcase)
The library has three entrances: the front double doors that lead directly to the basement stairs, the rear entrance that faces the hallway, and a hidden door with Monokuma's black and white pattern behind a moving bookcase. It connects to the hidden room where Motherkuma resides. Unlike the other bookcases, this moving bookcase has no books on top and closes on its own like an automatic door after a period of time, hence the noticeable markings it leaves on the floor in front of it. Moreover, a card reader lock is installed on the door, which Shuichi sprinkles with dust to detect whether it was used. True to his assumption, the dust is gone by the next morning, indicating that the mastermind, Tsumugi, enters the hidden room from the library to create a new Monokuma copy after he was accidentally destroyed by the Monokubs. By this point, the only individuals who are aware of the hidden door's existence other than the mastermind herself include Shuichi, Kaede, and Rantaro, who possesses the complete map of the Ultimate Academy as a part of his Survivor Perk.

Kaede's plot

Due to Shuichi's valid theory and the mounting pressure from the First Blood Perk's time limit, Kaede secretly plots to kill the mastermind instead of following Shuichi's suggestion of catching them red-handed. To expose the mastermind, Kaede and Shuichi set up two hidden cameras modified by Miu on the library's exit and entrance as well as security sensors on top of the moving bookcase. The unassuming Shuichi watches as Kaede set up her murder trick: removing the vent grate, laying it inside the air duct, moving the pile of books on top of the bookcase, and placing open encylopedias on the final bookcase.

Rantaro murdered by Tsumugi

Kaede's plan, however, fails after the shot put misses her unintended target, Rantaro, who visits the library to inspect the hidden door himself. Upon learning from Motherkuma about the botched murder, Tsumugi, who had prepared her own shot put ball, jumps out of the hidden room during the camera interval and bludgeons Rantaro to death. Afterward, she picks up Kaede's shot and leaves her shot put ball at the scene. She also loots the Survivor Perk Monopad from Rantaro's body, before retreating back into the hidden room. She also never enters the hidden room from the library after making Monokuma's spare on the second day, causing the dust Shuichi reapplies to remain on the card reader for the remainder of the killing game and fooling him into thinking that his theory is false.

After the first class trial, in which Kaede is wrongfully executed, the library is cleaned and leaves no trace of Rantaro's body nor any other evidence. The truth behind Rantaro's murder only comes to light during Chapter 6, where the remaining survivors manage to enter the hidden room after K1-B0 destroys the hidden door with his rocket launcher.

The A/V Room is located past the Game Room and is accessible from Chapter 1 onward. It features video racks, a poster bucket, two high quality 5.1ch speakers, several video players, and a projector screen that can be rolled up and put away. The movie discs stored on the video racks are mostly educational documentaries, including the ones about insects that Gonta watched prior to the first body discovery. There are also several movies and shows mixed in, such as the Italian drama film The Legend of 1900 and a plethora of movies with their case "covered with pictures of men and women," as described by Kaede.

Ultra Despair Girls 2 Teaser in Danganronpa V3 (English)

Several rolled up video game posters in rubber bands are stored in a cylindrical container. Among them is a poster teasing the possible sequel of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls titled Ultra Despair Girls 2, which Kaede and Shuichi discover during the first investigation.

Apart from the sliding door leading to the Game Room, the A/V Room likewise has a back sliding door that directly faces the hallway and the library's rear entrance. However, it is poorly built and barely opens a crack, which Shuichi assumes only a baseball and a thin arm can fit through the space. The railing of the door has been collecting dust as no one has moved it in a long period of time.

Kirumi's speculation Kirumi's speculation

Kirumi's speculation

During the first class trial, Kirumi speculates that Gonta could kill Rantaro from the A/V Room by using the heavy projector screen as a long pole to reach the library door. While her logic is sound, it is proven incorrect as Gonta did not carry out the murder.

Ultimate Supreme Leader Research Lab

“ It feels as if this entire room is just an elaborate prank.

”
Danganronpa V3 Location - Basement Ultimate Supreme Leader Research Lab (1)

The Ultimate Supreme Leader Research Lab (超高校級の総統の研究教室) is located underground, though it is completely separated from the other basement area. It is accessible by entering the secret passageway hidden beneath the entrance hall. As per Monokuma's rule, the lab is supposed to be permanently locked since its owner, Kokichi, dies prior to its discovery. However, K1-B0's explosives inadvertently opens its access in Chapter 6.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Basement Ultimate Supreme Leader Research Lab (2)

The lab resembles a supervillain's lair fitting for the leader of D.I.C.E. It inhabits various faux weaponry used for pranks that are mainly stored on the showcase. These includes handcuffs, empty suitcases, gas mask, two-way radios, and items for disguises such as wigs, glasses, shoes, suits of many colors, and even uniforms for D.I.C.E members. There are also a few clown masks seen lying around, a large replica of a helicopter hanging from the ceiling, a car resembling a Batmobile, a table with plenty of monitors likely used for strategy meetings, and the D.I.C.E emblem placed above the hovering central chair.

While investigating the lab, Shuichi discovers a book titled The Complete History of Hope's Peak Academy lies on the floor. It retells the accurate version of the long history of The Tragedy, which proves that the memories gradually implanted by the Flashback Light are fabrication.

Courtyard

The courtyard is separated into five areas: Front Entrance, Backyard, Nightspot, Plaza in Front of Large Stairs, and Cyber Courtyard.

The dormitory is a round building that houses sixteen rooms for each Killing School Semester participant. Drawings of the room owner are hang up on each door, and unlike the research labs, they are equipped with locks.

Kaede's room Kaede's room

Kaede's room

Based on the only four rooms seen in-game belonging to Kaede, Shuichi, Ryoma, and Kokichi, apart from the different color scheme between the boys and the girls, the rooms share the same layout and furniture. These include a bed, desk, trash can, sofa, coffee table, drawers, rug, television, shower room, monitor, closet where several duplicated uniforms the students wear are prepared, and intercom. Kaede and Shuichi describe the bed as comfortable, while Kirumi notes the pillows are adequate.[21] In addition, the room features a socket which the remaining survivors use to charge their Electrohammer's battery.

The rooms of the deceased are locked by Monokuma. Similarly, the Monokubs can enter the student's room at any time, as shown when they distribute the motive videos during nighttime.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Dormitory Room - Kokichi Oma

Kokichi's room is one of the few rooms accessible in-game. While inspecting his room in Chapter 6, Shuichi and Maki discover that Kokichi collected evidence from the past cases. These include Kaede and Shuichi's hidden camera and the photos it took, Miu's drone, Kirumi's inner tube, Himiko's magic show staircase, Rantaro's wax effigy, the Caged Child Seance book, and the killing game simulator's visor.

In addition, he received his own motive video much like Kirumi did, and kept a whiteboard where he documented the past cases and identified suspicious individuals among the remaining survivors.

There are an overwhelming amount of cardboard boxes filled with childish fantasy weapon blueprints, which Shuichi assumes to be intentional on Kokichi's part. He determines to lower the chance someone would discover the blueprints for crucial items he commissions Miu to create, such as the Electrohammer, Electrobomb, and Bugvac.

True to Shuichi's assumption, Maki discovers a will containing a clue to solve the Ultimate Survivor Research Lab's puzzle among these documents. Likewise, Maki discovers the detailed blueprint of the Bugvac machine and retrieves its prototype from Miu's lab, allowing the students to discover the Nanokumas' existence with K1-B0's zoom function.

Pool

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Pool Exterior (Post-Chapter 1)

The pool is located in a building adjacent to the gymnasium. It is unlocked in Chapter 2 by using the Ocarina while interacting with the monument in front of the building, prompting the vine blocking its entrance to wither instantly.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Pool

Shuichi describes the pool, complete with a diving board and sun loungers surrounding it, as resembling a resort rather than a typical school pool. According to the rules sign, the pool itself is 82 feet in length and 39 feet wide, making the water level look shallow despite its depth. The poolside is 13 feet on each end, and the left and right sides are 8 feet each. Swimming at nighttime, including touching the water, is prohibited to prevent students dying from "an unfortunate nighttime swimming accident" instead of from being properly murdered, said the Monokubs. However, a dead body is classified as an object, thus becoming an exception to this rule.

All manner of pool supplies, such as kickboards, water polo balls, an electric air pump, and sturdy rubber inner tubes, are kept in the pool's tool shed.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Everywhere Parasol Scene
The pool is featured in a bonus scene that can be triggered by handing out the Everywhere Parasol present to Tenko after opening up all the new areas at the beginning of Chapter 2, but before going to the gym. Another bonus scene involving the female student council members can be triggered in Chapter 3 by having the Gun of Man's Passion Present before speaking to Himiko in the morning before the third motive reveal.

“ Swimming is prohibited during nighttime. That one rule spoiled Kirumi's otherwise-perfect crime... But I don't plan on thanking Monokuma or the Monokubs for that.

— Shuichi Saihara[8]
”
Danganronpa V3 CG - The ropeway trick explained (1)

The pool is connected to the gymnasium's high up window and the Ultimate Tennis Pro Research Lab's shower room window on the third floor. With this knowledge, Kirumi creates a ropeway over the pool to transport Ryoma's body to the gym from his lab. She slides toward the gym with Ryoma's body on the pool's inner tube, and uses her hand to grip the rope and slow down. However, the friction causes part of her glove to tear off and drop in the pool.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 2 - Closing Argument Act 3 (5)
After dropping Ryoma's body to the piranhas water tank prepared for Himiko's magic show, Kirumi attempts to untie the rope and the inner tube. Unfortunately for her, one end of the rope comes loose, and the inner tube drops into the pool. Similar to the fabric from her gloves, she cannot retrieve it due to the rule against swimming at nighttime, becoming incriminating evidence that leads to her being found guilty. Following her trial, Shuichi assumes the windows are intentionally designed to face each other.

Boiler Room & Underground Passage

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Boiler Room

Located behind the school building is the Boiler Room. It has two entrances and becomes explorable from Chapter 1 onward. Due to the greenery that Kirumi assumes would interfere with the machinery, she believes the preparations of the academy as a whole are yet to be completed prior to the students' kidnapping. A heavy manhole and ladder leading to a spacious open area are hidden in grass, with Gonta being the first person to discover it.

“ The underground passage was a trap. It was a trap to get us to *think* we could work together, then crush our hopes.

— Shuichi Saihara[15]
”
Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Underground Passage

Moist, dusty air drifts through the dreary open area adjacent to an old industrial underground passage conspicuously labeled as "Exit", also known as the Death Road of Despair. The students are not intended to clear the Death Road of Despair before Chapter 5 due to its high difficulty level, however, if they do complete it, they will unlock a bonus scene featuring an alternate ending in which the students escape and other in-game bonuses.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Boiler Room Rubble

Kaede or Shuichi can attempt the minigame as much as they like during Free Time Events, since Gonta leaves the cover off per Kirumi's counsel. However, while Angie reigns as the student council president in Chapter 3, she wants the students to abandon their desire to leave the academy and requests Gonta to bury the manhole with heavy rocks. Gonta reopens it after Angie dies.

“ This place seems less like a building and more like...the inside of a spaceship, or a submarine in some anime or sci-fi movie.

— Tsumugi Shirogane[9]
”
Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Underground Passage Exit (1)

Since clearing the minigame before Chapter 5 is optional, Kokichi becomes the first person to canonically reach the end point in Chapter 4 in search of the door that the Card Key opens. He accomplishes this feat most likely with the help of Miu's Electrohammer. To open the door, the operation panel for the electric barrier, similar to the one in front of the Exisal hangar, must either be disabled using the Electrohammer or unlocked using the correct password.

Danganronpa V3 - The remaining students open the exist door (6)

The door opens to the sight of the outside world in utter ruins, which matches the memories implanted by the Flashback Light about the Gofer Project. Even the students immediately suffocate and pass out due to the lack of oxygen. However, Tsumugi claims in the final class trial that it is merely a set created by Team Danganronpa.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Boiler Room (3)
After the school renovation is completed in Chapter 6, the Boiler Room is no longer covered in grass, and one of the clues to solve the Ultimate Survivor lab's puzzle, "twin b," becomes easily spotted on the wall. It collapses shortly after as collateral damage to K1-B0 and the Exisals' fight, burying the manhole permanently.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Ultimate Aikido Master Research Lab

The research lab is a large and spacious dojo covered with new tatami mats. It has several scaffolds suspended by chains to the ceiling for jump training, balance poles, and automated-moving practice dummies to spar with. A large purple banner hangs in the middle with a logo resembling the patterns in Tenko's bow. Under the banner is a sizable wooden doll resembling the Tekken character Mokujin erected to watch over and protect the lab owner, as speculated by Shuichi.

The Ultimate Inventor Lab (超高校級の発明家の研究教室), belonging to Miu, is unlocked in the later half of Chapter 1 after Monokuma finishes preparing it, though the player cannot enter it until Chapter 2. It is packed with large, dangerous looking tools such as chainsaws and drills that hang from the ceiling, as well as a bed to perform experiments on, and tables that hold chemicals. There is also large screens on the back wall and fancy-looking chairs and couches.

Research Center Miu Iruma

During the killing game, Miu creates many of her inventions in her lab. These include the modified hidden camera Shuichi and Kaede set up in the library, the "drome" she uses to capture the aerial layout of the library, the Electrohammers, Electrobombs, and the Bugvac. She also performs maintenance on K1-B0 and upgrades him with a new light function which he uses while investigating Tenko's death. According to K1-B0, Miu spends most of her free time working on her invention, having seen plenty of half-built machines in her lab.

From Chapter 4 onward, Miu's research lab merges with K1-B0's.

The Ultimate Robot Lab (超高校級のロボットの研究教室), belonging to K1-B0, emerges out of thin air after the Levistone is placed on a pedestal with an indentation in Chapter 4. It is connected to Miu's lab and chock full of a futuristic sci-fi aesthetic. It is primarily blue, with glowing lights from cyan to a bright yellow, and has a window overlooking the hangar, allowing K1-B0 to spy on anyone entering or leaving the building.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Ultimate Robot Master Research Lab

There are hologram screens and a station to repair or upgrade K1-B0 at a given moment. Machinery and robot maintenance is the main point of his lab, and for this K1-B0 prefers not to bother using any of the things in there.

Danganronpa V3 - K1-B0 preparing to destroy the school (4)

After losing his antenna and therefore the "guidance" from the killing game audience at the end of Chapter 5, K1-B0 finally embraces his talent and decides to destroy the school. He arms himself with a rocket launcher and jet pack he obtains from his lab, and drastically improves their power output and functionality through several modifications. As such, he can obliterate any parts of the school with ease and go toe-to-toe with five Exisals for the span of one night.

Danganronpa V3 CG - K1-B0 and the Nanokumas (1)

K1-B0 also installs a zoom function, enhancing his vision to be on par with that of a microscope and allowing him to detect the Nanokumas trapped in the Bugvac.

It is unknown why Monokuma intentionally left this potent equipment in K1-B0's lab. However, once K1-B0 agrees to a ceasefire and participates civilly in the last class trial, Monokuma orders the Monokubs to install a new antenna on him, which unwittingly causes him to hear the audience survey once again.

Shrine of Judgement

“ The Ultimate Academy is proud to present its very own morphenomenal trial grounds!

— Monokuma[22]
”
Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Shrine of Judgement Exterior

The Shrine of Judgement is a conservatory with a bird-cage like design that doubles as the entrance to the courtroom. The interior has been exceptionally well-maintained ever since the beginning of the killing game, unlike its exterior that gets gradually cleaned up after each class trial.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Shrine of Judgement Interior Monokuma Statue

In Chapter 1, a Monokuma statue with a human body is added to the water fountain. Before every trial, the statue breaks the urn it holds before submerging, revealing a pathway and a secret door to the elevator that transports the students to the underground courtroom.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Courtroom

The courtroom is built by the Monokubs and their Exisals. It houses circling sixteen podiums each assigned to a student. Monokuma gets his own throne while the Monokubs' occupy the podiums in front of him. From Chapter 1 to Chapter 4, its backdrop and overall design are unchanged. Its most notable aspect is the stained glass windows, which vaguely resemble the Sayaka Maizono idol group CG from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Courtroom (2)

In Chapter 5, Monokuma changes the design to closely resemble Danganronpa 1's first class trial courtroom, while the Chapter 6 class trial is given a brand new all-blue theme with the killing game audience actively watching in the background.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Courtyard Courtroom Voting Result

The courtroom is equipped with monitors to broadcast the voting results and other transmissions, a monitor on each podium for the students to cast their vote, and a stool to accommodate Ryoma. A large and separate podium for the Exisal piloted by Kaito is added exclusively during the fifth class trial. During Debate Scrums, the podiums are raised to the ceiling where the students split into two groups and argue until they reach a consensus.

A deceased portrait is placed on a stand at the podiums of the fallen students and Monokubs. It is usually crossed with a red X adjusted to match each individuals. Some even have completely unique marks related to either their Ultimate talents or personality traits. Unique to Kaito and Kokichi during the fifth trial, their portraits are covered with a question mark since Monokuma cannot determine which one is the murder victim between the pair.

The metal door to the Exisal Hangar is opened by the Real Last Key in Chapter 5. Being a facility of utmost importance, Monokuma fortifies the hangar by placing it behind a maze-like hallway and erecting an electric barrier protecting its shutter.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Cyber Courtyard Exisal Hangar Shutter (1)

If any being other than the Exisals and their pilots attempts to approach the shutter or the operation panel without turning off the system, an alarm will go off. To turn it off, a 59-digit code needs to be entered in the control panel, with the first 42 digits being 503934857857362940569285811037959390029298778848. No other method but to disable it using Miu's Electrohammer or Electrobomb works, as shown when Maki futilly attempts to break the control panel with her knife.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Cyber Courtyard Exisal Hangar Shutter (3)

Since all Monokubs perished and no one was left to man the Exisals, Monokuma allows K1-B0 and Shuichi to tour the hangar once. He gives them the alarm remote to the students that can turn off both the motion sensor alarm and the electric barrier. They have to manually raise the shutter to enter the hangar and either use the control panel inside to restore the alarm system and electric barrier or use the one outside. If left alone, the barrier and alarm will remain off. While kidnapping Kaito with the Exisals, Kokichi forces Shuichi to hand him the remote.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Cyber Courtyard Exisal Hangar (1)

Inside the hangar, all five dormant Exisals are stored. They were painted using the painting machine, which K1-B0 potentially could use to give himself a makeover, and were cleaned using the washing machine while the Monokubs were around.

Danganronpa V3 CG - K1-B0 and Shuichi Saihara testing to see if the sensors recognize K1-B0 (2)

The room also features a hydraulic press used to scrap decommissioned Exisals. According to the safety notice, the press stops automatically if the infrared sensor detects a living being, though sentient machines such as K1-B0 are excluded. It is controlled by the Press Operation Panel, allowing it to go up and down. In addition, there is an "Emergency Stop" button, which would stop the press.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Cyber Courtyard Exisal Hangar Bathroom (1)

A toilet is located at the back of the hangar. It is unknown what purpose it serves as originally only Monokuma and the Monokubs have access to the area. Kokichi locks Kaito inside the bathroom after kidnapping him. However, it has a small eight-inches wide window for ventilation. While it doesn't open all the way, it is big enough to allow Kaito to communicate with Shuichi and receive items such as the crossbow case from Himiko.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Cyber Courtyard (5)
Kokichi, while pretending to be the mastermind, takes advantage of the Monokubs' absent and hacks the Exisals using a master remote control he commissions from Miu. He commands the Exisals to kidnap Kaito. In addition, he puts them on autopilot and direct to monitor Monokuma 24/7 in the hangar hallway, preventing him from interfering with his plan to end the killing game.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 5 - Closing Argument Act 2 (2)

While Kokichi checks up on Kaito at the toilet, he aims for Kokichi's right arm using the crossbow, only intending to disable him. The scuffle bleeds to the main room, though before Kokichi could summon an Exisal with the remote control, Maki opens the shutter, leaps out from Monodam's Exisal, and shoots Kokichi's back with her a poisoned arrow.

Danganronpa V3 CG - Confrontation in the hanger (3)

Since Kokichi has no idea about the Ultimate Despair memories implanted by the Flashback Light, the infuriated Maki decides to end his life instead of questioning him further. To keep Maki from becoming the blackened, however, Kaito used his left arm to shield Kokichi. Not wanting him to die from poison, Maki bolts out to retrieve the antidote from Shuichi's lab.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 5 - Closing Argument Act 3 (2)

Kokichi incorporates this unforeseen event into his plan to help him end the killing game. He closes the shutter, forcing Maki to deliver the antidote through the window. However, Kokichi immediately snatches it and fools Maki into thinking he drinks the antidote.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 5 - Closing Argument Act 3 (3)

After Maki leaves, Kokichi disables the unseen swarming Nanokumas with an Electrobomb to ensure Monokuma cannot surveil the hangar. It also disables the safety function of the hydraulic press and the hangar's shutter alarm. Kokichi then coerces Kaito into drinking the antidote. In exchange, he asks Kaito to cooperate with his plan. Believing his plan will work, Kaito agrees to become his accomplice and begin working before Kokichi succumbs to the slow-acting poison.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 5 - Closing Argument Act 4 (3)

After fabricating the scene in the bathroom, Kaito drags Kokichi to the hydraulic press, leaving behind swipe pattern bloodstain from the bathroom to the press. With Kaito's support, Kokichi stands in front of the press's control panel and sets up the video camera near the press control panel.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 5 - Closing Argument Act 4 (4)

In the meantime, Kaito lays face up inside the press, drapes his coat over their shoulders. Then, Kokichi activates the press and the camera's record button at the same time. The hydraulic press comes down slowly, all caught on tape for the remaining survivors to see. Normally the safety function would have triggered, but the Electrobomb had disabled it. The press gets lower and lower, and just as Kaito disappears from view, Kokichi presses the "Force Stop" button and the camera's pause button simultaneously.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 5 - Closing Argument Act 4 (5)

The two then switch places. Kaito, the would-be victim becomes the culprit, starts up the press and camera, allowing the camera to record Kokichi being crushed to death. Kaito later confirms that along with Kokichi's body, he crushes the Exisals' remote control and the last Electrobomb. Now alone, Kaito collects the video camera and tears the hydraulic press's power cord to prevent anyone from determining the identity of the crushed body and the cause of death.

Danganronpa V3 Chapter 5 - Closing Argument Act 4 (7)

With the press disabled, Kaito returns to the bathroom to flush Kokichi's clothes. Finally, he climbs inside of Monotaro's Exisal to hide, stay still during the investigation, and later participate in the class trial while pretending to be Kokichi using the Exisal's voice changer.

Aftermath
Danganronpa V3 CG - The Students discovering Kokichi Oma's bloody remains (8)

The next morning, the remaining survivors disable the alarm system and the electric barrier using an Electrobomb Maki steals from Kokichi. They intend to save Kaito, only to be greeted by a body discovery announcement. Since Kaito's jacket sleeve sticks out of the press, they initially think Kaito is the murder victim.

Danganronpa V3 Location - Cyber Courtyard Exisal Hangar Bathroom (3)

Several pieces of evidence are left behind in the toilet. These include a puddle of blood from Kokichi's wound that creates a trail of blood to the press. There are also a black case and the built crossbow from Maki's lab, three arrows used during the three-way confrontation, the empty bottle of the antidote, and Kokichi's clothes that Kaito cannot flush all the way.

Since the Exisals' remote control is destroyed, all of them, except for Monotaro's which Kaito pilots, have stopped moving altogether, allowing Monokuma to resume his host duties. Monokid's, Monophanie's, and Monosuke's remain in the hallway whilst Monodam's, which Maki previously controls, is left inside the hangar with its cockpit exposed. Furthermore, K1-B0, who malfunctions or "feels sick" due to the Electrobomb's jamming effect, had to step out of the hangar until it dissipates.
