Spears of Gungnir (グングニルの槍 lit. Gungnir's Spear) is an execution featured in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, with Mukuro Ikusaba being executed.

Sequence

While disguising as Junko Enoshima, Mukuro violated one of the school rules by using violence towards Monokuma, he immediately called upon the Spears of Gungnir, which emerged from the floor and impaled Mukuro all over her body. Mukuro was shocked by this; as the plan was for her to be locked in a dungeon that she would escape from. However Junko decided to kill her on a whim to showcase the danger of Monokuma and to experience the despair of killing her own sister.

Alternate Sequence

Within the alternate continuity of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc IF, Makoto Naegi calls out to Mukuro with her real name before the Spears of Gungnir can impale her due to recognizing Monokuma's face from his resurgent memories of The Tragedy. Her surprise causes her to step away from them at the last second and saves her life. However, Makoto is impaled by one of the spears instead, leaving him near death. In order to hide her involvement, Junko (through Monokuma) frames Mukuro as the mastermind and Makoto as her accomplice. Makoto's sacrifice ultimately causes Mukuro to find the resolve to turn against her sister and end the killing game before it could begin, both to save her friends and to grant Junko the despair she craved.

Aftermath

In Chapter 5, Junko used Mukuro's body as the "victim" of the fifth murder case in order to frame Kyoko Kirigiri, the Ultimate Detective, for murder, allowing the latter to be executed in the Class Trial. In Chapter 6, the injuries Mukuro sustained lead to the others determining that she was in fact the Junko they had originally met.
